We Recycle
I consider it our responsibility as stewards of the earth to take care of it by keeping it cleaner for us now, and for the future. This project is to remind us that many different things can be recycled to help do our part to preserve this great earth God made. It also is an attempt at humor; to remind us that our bodies are not ment to last forever and they can even be useful for others after we are finished with them. Part of my inspiration for this sculpture was a discussion where a friend stated that her body was going to the Body Farm- an excellent use for a body when we are finished with it to help out human kind.
“We Recycle” can be looked at as having a double meaning- recycling things to better utilize resources for the good of the earth and recycle ourselves to help humans as well. Medical technology has advanced greatly in creative uses of the human body. Many different organs can be harvested to keep people alive and others can be reused in those still living. I hope to see more and more people willing to donate their bodies for the use of others when they are finished with them. Research is another area that could use these shells of flesh when we have used them up.
Fun project, lots of sanding and shaping to get the different looks. Has become much more work than I anticipated, but I enjoying working with it. This sculpture is StyrofoamTM, was painted with gesso and acrylics with the added bonus of glow-in-the-dark paint! Approximately 18" wide x 7" high x 3" deep. $130
