Sister's Got the Plan
This is painted from a picture I took Christmas 2010 of my sister with a gift of a calendar that captured her tone so well. It was this spirit that I wanted to capture in this work, her attitude, not really her likeness. I started out wanting to make it very loose and even semi-abstract, but ended up putting much more detail in it. I’m fairly happy with the final result and hope she likes it too. I'm not sure my sister even realizes how composed she is!
I started with gesso on wall board, leaving texture and covering the edges of the piece so they could be sealed and painted. I painted first, adding some detail as I went, and then decided to try pastels for some of the final detail. I was happy with the effect of the pastels with the paint; this is my first attempt combining these two mediums.
Painting is gesso, acrylic and pastels on wall board, sealed with clear acrylic paint, approximately 12" wide x 9" high and was completed January 21, 2011. NFS
