Jewelry
I have always loved all kinds of jewelry, particularly unique and handmade pieces, although I often don’t wear the pieces that I own.
I have enjoyed working with aluminum, copper, polymer clay, different types of beads, stones and strings to make various types of jewelry pieces.

Chalice Pin Started with a mini domino, etched a chalice into it using a DremelR Stylus tool then used a SharpieR pen to color the red area. This chalice is the symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Think I finished it in 2010.

I made about 30 of these pieces in a variety of styles and colors; mostly for children involved in a “Logos” program I participated in. I wanted to give them something to keep and to remind them of their experiences with this program.
All are made from polymer clay and each one is unique with various fish or crosses of some type on them. Every string was pleather (synthetic leather) with thin wire used to attach it to the clasp. I was hoping to make them in such a way that they would break if caught on something, rather than being a choking hazard. |
Copper Pendant This was my first attempt to work with this particular type of copper. This thick chunk of copper was punched out of a ground bar about ¼ inch thick. I was not able to do much to change the shape; I do not have much experience working with shaping metal that I can't cut.
I cut a T (for my nephew’s name) into the copper with a DremelR tool and worked copper wire around it to give it a way to attach to a chain. I struggled with the copper wire to get it to look like something, never could get it to look very pleasing, but hoped my nephew would like it anyway, sorry I don’t have a very good picture of the piece. |
Eagle PendantTried to capture the look of feathers on this Eagle head; made with my DremelR tool on plastic and approximately 2 ¼” x 1 ¾”. Finished in 2007. |
Emblems for Scouts I made several of these for our Scout Troop with the BSA fleur de leis and several with some type of cross on the other side. They were made of polymer clay impressed with a BSA pin; most contain two or more colors and are twisted to achieve a wood grain effect. Each have a wire loop on them so they may be used as a key chain, necklace or to add to a walking stick. All about 1" to 1 1/4" around.

Tiger As I’ve said before I love the big cats, especially tigers, which was what I chose for my subject for this piece. I have some flat aluminum plates that are about 1/16 of an inch thick that I have made several things out of including this tiger. This is my favorite metal piece I have made and I do wear it quite often.
I used a DremelR tool keeping it at the same angle as much as possible which gave the image an almost holographic effect. This etching is very light and is rather hard to see, especially now that it is older. The holographic effect was much more obvious when the piece was new, but does not show up as much now. I used a small piece of copper electrical wire through a hole in the aluminum to attach to a pleather string; was finished in 2008. Measures about 1 1/8". You can see the ears better in this bottom picture. |
Tiger- plastic I have made two tigers using this type of plastic which is about 1/8 inch thick, once again I used a DremelR to etch the material. Approximately 2 1/2" x 2 1/4".
