Isaiah 55:12 II
I love the passage in Isaiah 55:12 that reads, “…and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” I have stood and watched the trees clapping, try it sometime, it is magnificent to observe such joy in God’s nature. I wanted to express this visually somehow and decided to use leaves and gesso for a beginning.
This painting actually started as a way to use the gesso that was still on the leaves used to make impressions in the first leaves clapping hands painting. I hate to waste anything, and I do mean anything, so I used the gooey gesso covered leaves to imprint onto this canvas and leave their outlines there for me to use. I pressed them onto the canvas, each leaf impression leaving its individual markings. I outlined the leaves with pen and drew in the veins. I then worked with washes to get the effects I wanted, didn’t turn out exactly like what was in my head, but this is usually the way it goes.
I used more natural colors than the first painting, but did not try to make it completely realistic. I wrote the passage into the wet brown paint, but somehow left out “all”, sorry for that, hate that I quoted the Bible incorrectly. I also tried a little salt in some areas and a little alcohol in others just to see what would happen. I had fun with it, which is the way art should be!
Painting is gesso, acrylic and pen on canvas, 14" wide x 11" high completed October 15, 2010. (See Isaiah 55:12 I) $62
