Lost in Tulip
This was one of the first paintings I did in 2010 when I started painting again. I have always had difficulty working on art from memory and I wanted to see if I do so without constant reference to a source. I love to take pictures of flowers and especially like close-ups to show the magnificent detail that God has put into everything! I took this picture looking straight into a tulip that bloomed in our yard.
This painting is acrylic on wall board, with gesso painted on it in the general circular shape around the tulip. I prefer to make my art so it does not have to be in a frame, so I used gesso and paint around the sides of the wall board. Also this particular painting is not rectangular or square on purpose, and would be hard to frame anyway. I referred to the photo, and then started painting. I only referred to the photo two or three more times, which made the painting successful for me. I wasn’t so intent on making the painting exactly like the tulip as to be a representation of it. The painting is approximately 12" x 12" and was completed September 20, 2010. SOLD
