How I Calculate Pricing My Work . . .
After research and thought I have come up with a method of pricing that involves price per inch of each piece. (My price per inch is much less than several other artists in my area). This calculation includes a percentage added to reflect the type of materials used, their cost and the increased degrees of difficulty of execution of the piece. You may notice variations in pricing for this reason.
I have attempted to keep this method as mathematical and fair as possible with a minimum amount of emotional involvement. My final price is sometimes lower or higher than the calculations, reflecting the composite effort involved, and a completely arbitrary element!

Baseline:
Acrylic on canvas or wallboard; .40 cents per square inch |
Acrylic on StyrofoamTM; .40 cents per square inch plus 15% (considered a painting and a sculpture together) |
Oil on canvas; .40 cents per square inch plus 20% |
Pastels; .40 cents per square inch plus 15% |
Examples;
"Morning Has Broken" is an acrylic painting on pre-stretched/gessoed canvas that is 20" wide x 16" high which equals 320 square inches. The square inches of this painting times the baseline of .40 cents equals 128. I rounded the price to $130.
|
Or:
20 x 16= 320 320 x .40= 128 Final Price is $130. |
"New Heart" is a StyrofoamTM sculpture with acrylic paint that is 20" wide x 11.75" high x 3" deep which (ignoring the depth) equals 235 square inches. The square inches of this sculpture times the baseline of .40 cents equals 94; adding 15% for the difficulty of working with StyrofoamTM equals 108.10. I rounded the price to $115.
|
Or:
20 x 11.75= 235 235 x .40= 94 94 + 15%= 108.10 Final Price is 115. |
"Georgia's Inspiration" is an oil painting on raw canvas that is 14.5" wide x 20.25" high which equals 293.625 square inches. The square inches of this oil painting times the baseline of .40 cents equals 117.45; adding 20% for the difficulty of working with oil paint equals 140.94. I rounded the price to $150.
|
Or:
14.5 x 20.25= 293.625 293.625 x .40= 117.45 117.45 + 20%= 140.94 Final Price is $150. |
